MOUNTAIN NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE — NEW DATE: SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2019 8AM-12PM

Hello Mountain Residents,
Need more space in the home? It could be time for a little Spring cleaning. Several Mountain neighborhood families have expressed interest in holding a garage sale and rather than each family having their own garage sale, we thought we could maximize the exposure by turning this into another spectacular Mountain Neighborhood Garage Sale, now scheduled for Saturday, April 6th, 2019, 8am-12pm.
You can always run your own garage sale but if you’d like to participate in the one we are organizing,  please contact the organizers (below) and send your address and a short list of items you’ll have for sale.
In addition, we like to find ways to incorporate children where we can as a learning and growing experience. We encourage families with children to get their children to help organize and run the garage sale. In doing so, we will have a raffle and give away up to three (3) $20 to 3 children (under the age of 12) in the neighborhood at the end of event who gets involved in the garage sale.  This is on an honor system so parents can email their child’s name to the email below for the raffle. We will have a third party draw the winners and make the announcement.
Co-organizers:  Donna Bhavsar  & Judit Kolics
Here’s to a new Spring, less clutter and more space to live and play.

Neighborhood speed mitigation meeting

A speed mitigation meeting was held with the city of Austin’s ATD (Austin Transportation Department) on Sunday 9/24/2017 at 4:30pm at the Balcones Country Club. Atendees spanned the Mountain, Balcones Village/Spicewood, the Enclave, and perhaps Spicewood Estates.  Approximately 75 people attended.

See the two files attached for the presentation from ATD and the presentation from me representing the multi-neighborhood survey and requests.

The short summary of the meeting is:

From ATD:

PROPOSED SPEED MITIGATION

  • Cedar Crest:  Four locations of Speed cushions
  • Clearock:  Two locations of Speed Cushions
  • Spicewood Parkway:  Possibility of flat top cushion installation

Messages from neighborhood to ATD:
– ATD is only listening to a small fraction of the impacted residents
– 95% of the neighborhood does not like the Spicewood Parkway Speed Bumps
– Request: remove those rubber speed bumps
– Request: do not install any more rubber speed bumps
– Engage the full neighborhood; change your policy

There are a several follow-ups under consideration and a few of us are going to meet Thursday to discuss next steps.

Meet With City Councilman Jimmy Flannigan About Anderson Mill’s Road Improvements

We’ve come a long way in our efforts to finally get much delayed safety improvements to Anderson Mill Road (between 183 and 620).  We started by calling 311 to report problem areas, speaking up at District 6 town halls and posting our concerns on the Mobility ATX Forum which included Anderson Mill Road as one of the top 5 traffic concerns in the report this group delivered to the City of Austin in 2016.

And, most important, the City of Austin included over $5 million for improvements to this section of Anderson Mill Rd in the 2016 Mobility Bond proposal which was approved by voters in November.

Now, we have an opportunity to both hear from and provide feedback to city traffic engineers and our District 6 City Councilman, Jimmy Flannigan about plans for spending this bond money.

Please join us at the Anderson Mill Road Public Meeting on Saturday, March 11th from 10 am – noon at Spicewood Elementary School, 11601 Olson Drive.  Invite your neighbors and friends!
