The 2011 MNA election has concluded. Thank you to all our neighbors who have volunteered their time to serve on board positions for this coming year. The new exec board members, committee members, and ACC members are posted here http://www.mountainneighborhood.com/boardmembers.
Additionally, the proposed updates to the MNA bylaws have been approved unanimously by the membership and will be reflected on the Bylaws page of this website.
The annual MNA election will start on Fri June 17th and be open for two weeks through June 30th. Balloting will be done online only and results will be announced within a day or so of the ballot closing. Items on the ballot:
Bull Creek Ranch, the Mountain, and other nearby neighborhoods have been in discussions with AWU to minimize the impact of the Jollyville Transmission Main shaft on the surrounding neighborhoods. The result is the attached Letter of Commitment from AWU to the neighborhood residents which sets forth the guidelines under which the construction will be performed.
Letter of Commitment Overview
The full Letter of Commitment can be found at the "1 attachment" link below this article (or just click here)
Surface work hours from 7am-7pm M-F, 9am-5pm Saturday
Heavy equipment traffice only from 9am-3pm
Control dust during construction
No construction traffic in neighborhoods or parking at the Mountain entrance/streets
Wood security fence, area cleared of trash daily
On-site lighting will be minimal and directed downwards
After completion, no above-grade structures and area will be restored
We have also asked that the site be connected to the PEC power grid to minimize the use of generators and the noise associated with them.
While this helps set expectations and guidelines for the project, it is important to realize that the construction impacts to our neighborhoods will still be significant. The initial phase of the construction is tentatively scheduled to start late 2011 or early 2012 and will last approximately 3 months. During this time, dynamite will be used to excavate the 30' wide and 120' deep shaft. We have been told by the city and construction contractors that this will be a very loud and disruptive phase of construction.
The Mountain will host a neighborhood garage sale on Saturday, April 16th from 8am-noon. Several residents had discussed this idea on the Google Group in order to coordinate individual sales, so a big thanks to Kara Thompson for organizing this for our neighborhood. We are not organizing a central location for a single sale, so to participate simply host a garage sale at your house on the 16th. We will be placing signs at the neighborhood entrances, but you may need to place individual signs on internal streets to direct buyers to your house.
If you are hosting a garage sale, the MNA asks that you please pick up any litter at your house and surrounding houses after the sale. We would also like to remind everyone (whether hosting a sale or not) to be aware that there will be additional people in the neighborhood that weekend. Please be aware of this and ensure that items not intended for sale do not disappear, whether accidentally or intentionally, by closing garage doors, moving toys/bikes from front yards, etc. Continue reading →
Ready to welcome warmer weather with friends and neighbors?
The days are getting longer; neighborhood children are all playing in the streets; we hear the sounds of mowers; flowers are blooming; short sleeves… This could only mean one thing — Spring has arrived! What a perfect occasion for a get-together with your neighbors or to spend a Sunday afternoon just celebrating spring with your family.
When : Sunday, April 3rd
Time : 12:30pm – 2:30pm (Easter Egg hunt will be at 1:00 pm)
Where : Mountainview Park
Who: All residents in the Mountain neighborhood are invited to participate
There will be fun activities for all, including our popular egg hunt for the kiddos. Bring a Frisbee, or take advantage of the spring breeze by flying a kite. The MNA will provide lemonade and some light refreshments. Consider bringing some amazing springtime snacks for all to share. Our hope is to take this beyond a two-minute Easter egg hunt and make it more of a neighborhood gathering.
As always, we need volunteers to make it happen; please help if you can. We will need volunteers in the following areas:
* Shopping (candies, lemonade and miscellaneous)
* Help with Setup
* Egg-stuffers/ hiders
* Drink Wrangler
* Face painters
* Clean up help
Please contact Usha Prasadh at if you are available and interested in helping.
Mark your calendar, and hope to see you all there!!
